QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking an outstanding scientist for a fully funded, tenure track faculty appointment in the broad area of microbiology (bacteriology, virology, e.g.). A PhD is required. The Department and the School of Veterinary Medicine seek a faculty member with expertise including, but not limited to, antimicrobial resistance, microbial pathogenesis, cutting-edge diagnostic test development, innovative translational research, pathogen discovery, and/or vaccinology. Research experience in basic, clinical-translational and/or collaborative cross-species research in areas that integrate well with the research strengths of the Department and related groups on the University of California, Davis campus is required. The School of Veterinary Medicine embraces the One Health concept and offers many opportunities for collaboration on projects that span animal, human and ecosystem health. Candidates are expected to develop an extramurally funded research program. Aptitude/experience in teaching and graduate and professional education is desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching: The primary teaching responsibilities will be participation in the DVM professional curriculum. Opportunities exist to participate in the development and teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate academic programs. A demonstrated commitment to education and to the training of veterinary and/or other biomedical scientists is preferred.
Research: Development of a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest is a fundamental requirement of the position, including publication of results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful applicant is expected to obtain extramural funding and to develop and direct research programs involving professional students, residents, graduate students and/or post-doctoral scholars.
Clinical: The opportunity for a clinical appointment within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is available, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Service: The University of California has a system of shared governance. Active participation in committees, professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate outlets is required.
Faculty members in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis have opportunities to collaborate with research groups within the School of Medicine, the College of Biological Sciences, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (including the Veterinary Center for Clinical Trials), the Center for Comparative Medicine, the One Health Institute, the Veterinary Institute for Regenerative Cures, the California National Primate Research Center, the Cancer Center, the Center for Equine Health and the Center for Companion Animal Health, among others. If the successful candidate has research interests that align with the Agricultural Experiment Station and its mission oriented research, the possibility of an appointment as an Agronomist in the AES will be explored at the time an offer is issued.
