Salary Range: $18.55- $21.52/Hour - Budgeted Salary Range: Initial placement will be between $18.55 – $19.97/Hour, commensurate with relevant working experience.
THIS POSITION IS PERMANENTLY LOCATED IN TURLOCK, CA.
Under supervision, provide laboratory assistance in all lab sections and office areas of the Turlock laboratory. Perform bacteriological testing. Perform Quality Control/Quality Assurance testing, including basic biochemical tests using bacteria. Set-up Salmonella cultures, perform Salmonella isolation and identification procedures on samples, including fecals, fluffs, drag swabs, etc. Perform other basic testing as needed. Perform serological and histopathological testing. Process blood samples and set up serum samples for testing. Under supervision of technical personnel, perform diagnostic tests on samples utilizing ELISA, plate agglutination, immunodiffusion, and hemagglutination assays. Perform routine laboratory maintenance and cleaning.
Knowledge of & experience working in a veterinary/medical laboratory diagnostic setting; including specimen handling, operation of laboratory equipment/LIMS, preparing/mixing/inventory of reagents, & sterile/ general laboratory techniques.
Knowledge of basic mammalian and avian anatomy and animal disease(s).
Skills to process clinical samples (animal tissues and fluids) and environmental samples for bacteriology and serology.
Working knowledge and skills to conduct quality control methods in a diagnostic laboratory including proper identification, labeling and completing of documents related to received animals, specimens, and/or supplies; and maintaining accurate inventory and quality control records for biological media.
Customer service skills, with the experience to interact with individuals at all levels of the University and with external clients. Skills to obtain, comprehend, and give adequate consideration to others’ priorities, opinions, concerns and to promote teamwork.
Skills with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications in a Windows environment for correspondence, documentation and accurately enter data into computers.
Skills to establish priorities to meet daily and variable workload demands and large sample volume (multi-tasking); and to accurately file both alphabetic and numerically.
Background in basic chemistry and microbiology.
Knowledge and skills to practice aseptic technique.
Knowledge and skills to follow quality control procedures and guidelines.
