In the CV role, you can do that by supporting and ensuring the integrity of the infectious disease research and health care of the animal colonies.
What you will do! In the Clinical Veterinarian (Biocontainment) role, your main duties would involve supporting infectious disease research by conducting physical examinations, radiography, bronchoscopy, ultrasonography, interpretation of clinical pathology, and other types of clinical procedures in BSL2 - BSL4 environments. You will manage the health care of the animal colonies, providing clinical care and preventive medicine support; as well as perform clinical, diagnostic, and surgical support, in addition to providing anesthesia. You may also assist with the development, execution, and animal monitoring for the preventive medicine program, plus provide analgesic technical expertise when needed. Document and submit detailed reports, as well as using controlled substances and maintaining proper records. Participation in a special immunization program for infectious agents involved in studies may also be required.
As the CV, you are an integral part of our team, as you may be tasked with reviewing, writing, and updating facility policies, veterinary care, and behavioral SOPs. You may also be asked to recommend/assist with establishing/enhancing animal standards, provide guidance to veterinary services personnel, and/or the opportunity to develop innovative surgical techniques/procedural improvements. You will also develop and train staff, participate in inspections or audits of veterinary/animal welfare content, and collaborate with other staff regarding animal care, health, welfare, and treatment.
Who are we looking for? A candidate that possesses a DVM or VMD for an AVMA accredited program or ECFVG certification. Licensure to practice vet medicine in a least 1 U.S. state. ACLAM board certification preferred or acquisition within 2 years of hire required. Four years lab animal experience with multiple species. NHP (old and new world) experience a plus. Must have good clinical skills and thorough knowledge of Animal Welfare regulations and the AAALAC accreditation process. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education/experience listed.
