The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS), Texas A&M University (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) invites applications for an 11-month, full-time, clinical-track faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor to serve as a surgical skills educator at the Veterinary Education Research and Outreach (VERO) program located at the West Texas A&M Campus in Canyon, Texas. The anticipated start date is Summer 2024. 

The successful candidate will have a primary instructional role and will participate in instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum at the VERO campus. As a clinical educator, this unique position includes a primary role in the two preclinical years of the DVM curriculum with an emphasis in surgical skill development and will work closely with existing faculty at the VERO program and in College Station to deliver this content stream. The individual will participate in multiple courses, including the Professional & Clinical Skills course, which is contiguous through the first six semesters of the curriculum. In this course students gain clinical skills in the simulation laboratory, professional skills, including communication, ethical decision-making, personal and professional finance, and critical thinking skills through problem-based instruction. The successful candidate will devote up to 70% of their time to instruction in the preclinical curriculum with the remaining time devoted to clinical instruction and shared patient care of horses at West Texas A&M University locations (15%), institutional service (10%), and scholarship (5%). 

The successful candidate will participate with other faculty in teaching and mentoring of VMBS veterinary students with opportunities to be involved in the training of interns and residents, if desired. These educational opportunities include 4^th year rotations and other experiential training along with didactic lectures and laboratories. Faculty in the DVM 2 2 program “cross-over” and collaboratively teach in multiple courses to reinforce content related to their subject matter of interest across the 2 2 program. Participation in continuing education for veterinarians and horse owners at the regional, state, or national level is expected.

The individual selected for this position will be a crucial team member in the VMBS VERO program. Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent) degree and must be board certified or have met the requirements to take a board examination in a specialty recognized by the AVMA American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS), including ABVP. ACVS or ECVS credentials are preferred. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas. Experience and interest in equine practice is preferred.
